My son can read!

Okay, so it's only Dick and Jane that he can read a bit of, but yesterday he didn't read at all. I'm so excited! It's the most amazing thing to see how his mind works with identifying words. I'm so proud! He won't be five until March. Dick and Jane now; Hardy Boys next year! Soon he can read to his sister.

It'll be a long day

The kids are driving me nuts! It's Saturday, but K has to work today. It's getting too cold to spend much time outside. J's crayoned on the walls already this morning while I was in the shower.

We've all got colds, which are making us miserable. If it's like last year, we'll pass colds around until summer. I suspect it has more to do with N's being in preschool than to our having the house closed up in the winter because we close the house up even more in the summer because of the heat and humidity. I am actually outdoors more in the winter, I think, because more days are moderate than in the summer.

I think N is sweeping with his whisk broom in the family room. Yup. Maybe I can entertain them by having them clean the place. I need to run before J falls off the back of the armchair.

Happy Thanksgiving!

It's Thanksgiving. K had to work this morning. The kids drove me nuts while he was out. They had hoped he'd be able to play with them all day.

N decided he wanted to watch football today. We don't know where that came from since neither K nor I watches football. Perhaps he learned about it at preschool.

We're having Cornish game hens for dinner since none of us like turkey. K made pumpkin pies last night. I've got the oven on to preheat, and then I'll chuck the bird in. They are in a marinade right now.

It's rained quite a bit off and on this morning. Now it's clear and sunny.

I've got two loads of laundry going and one more to do. It's a good thing we aren't going anywhere or having anyone over or I'd have to delay my laundry project. I've decided to round up all the towels later today and wash them. That's the third load I'll do today.

Maybe I'll get to my Christmas cards this weekend. Ideally, they'll be ready to go in the mailbox by December 1, but I haven't even begun the project. Since his office is closed today, though, I won't have any work to do after the kids go to bed this evening. Maybe I can get started then.

I need to run. J's diaper is poopy.

I voted!

I got up this morning at 5:30 and took a shower. At 6 a.m. I was able to sneak out of the house without waking the kids to go vote. I got to the polling place only to find there was no parking left. I drove to a supermarket only to find it didn't open until 7 a.m. I drove back to the polling place and was able to find a parking place this time. It was quite a wait before my turn came. I was the 123rd person to vote at my polling place.

Go Bush!
