Classes Over for Summer!

I turned in my diet analysis paper earlier this afternoon.  That's it for my nutrition class!  The paper was due tomorrow, so I am one day ahead.  I'm not sure what I'll do tomorrow other than get a TB skin test started so I can get the paperwork done and checked before real classes start in mid-late August.

Better

N saw the ear, nose, throat doctor this morning.  He is doing much better so the doctor did not do anything.  If he gets worse again, though, we are to go directly back to him and not to the family doctor.

My final paper, a diet analysis for Dr. Joel Fuhrman's Eat to Live program is almost done.  I have a very poor draft that I need to print out, and tomorrow I will review it, mark it up, make one paragraph flow better into the next, assure I've met the requirements of the analysis, and fix any typos.  If I'm happy with it, I'll e-mail it to my professor.  If I'm not, I have one more day.  I have to submit it by Wednesday.

Once that paper is done, I will have completed all work for my nutrition class.  I finished the computer class last week.

N worse

N's ear began hurting more again.  Friday I took him back to the doctor's.  He got another injection of Rocephin and was put on stronger ear drops.  Monday he's got an appointment to see an ear nose throat doctor.

Swimming Over

Tuesday was the last swim meet of the season for us.  Only K swam in it.  She did freestyle and back stroke.  She is now able to get across the pool with either stroke without holding the lane line at all.

N missed the last two swim meets.  A week ago Monday I had to take him to the doctor's office because he had swimmer's ear and was in a lot of pain.  The antibiotic/steroid eardrops they prescribed didn't work.  By Wednesday he was in so much pain (even on ibuprofen around the clock) I called them back and they called in oral antibiotics and Tylenol III.  By Friday he was in so much pain they had me bring him in and he got a shot of rocephin and a prescription for Vicodin.  He took the Vicodin every four hours until some time late Saturday.  At that point he was able to use only ibuprofen around the clock.  He did much better Sunday and could eat food (chew) for the first time since Monday.  He had a follow-up appointment Monday where the doctor concluded he did not need another injection of rocephin.

J was screwing around at swim practice with the kids her age and a couple of the boys were taking turns throwing each other up in the air.  J stupidly did it and broke her wrist upon landing.  She's in a cast, and we decided to go without the waterproof type since they cause bad rashes in people with eczema usually.

Neither N nor K swam in the final meet.  N swore he'd never swim again, but that was when he was in a lot of pain.  I bet he'll be back in the water before the summer is over.   J would love to get wet.  Her break is a minor one, and the cast will be off in three weeks from when it went on.  She's getting a lot of people to sign it.  It's starting to stink.

I have a final exam in my computer class tomorrow.  It's open book.  I don't expect perfection, but I expect it will go quite well.  If I'm wrong, I have a pretty high A going  right now, so I have a little padding to keep it.

Still Hot

It's still hot.  We got over 100 F again today.  I think the humidity is down some, though, because I dried a couple towels on my clothes line in about an hour.  All my laundry got dried in about 2.5 hours.  It can take all day on a cooler, higher-humidity day.

I swam at the pool this morning during K's practice.  On the way to the pool at 11 a.m., it was already 95 F.  It doesn't feel that bad once I get wet.

We are eating lots of string beans, cucumbers, and potatoes from my garden.  I'm having to water, though, to keep it alive.  I finally got my pumpkins and watermelons direct-seeded last weekend.  I don't know if I got them planted in time or not.

Another Swim Meet

We had another swim meet this evening.  It was so HOT outside.  I was a mini-mite/mite mom again (rounding up the little kids for their races).  I pretty much know the names of all the kids ages 5 through 8.

K made it all the way across the pool freestyle without touching the lane lines (a first for her--until now she's stopped, hung onto the line and caught her breath).  It was very exciting to see.

Afterwards we (people from the swim team) went to Sonic (a drive-in restaurant with the food arriving at your car or outdoor table brought by people on roller skates).  The kids had a great time running around with the other kids.  It was after 10 p.m. before we got home.

The last two meets are going to be at our pool.  Instead of mini-mite/mite mom, I'll be a bake sale assistant.  I think I get to sit down to do that job.  Swim team will be over before July is over.

Tomorrow we'll probably be at the pool too much because there will be stuff going on all day there to celebrate Independence Day.  The kids love diving for pop.  I get to dive for beer.  I still have my four cans from last year.
