No class

I tried to sign up for an on-line computer class for this summer. I had no luck. All the sections were already full. I'm trying to reach an adviser to make sure that if I don't take a class, that I still get to keep my math score and I don't have to take that math placement class again. Maybe next summer I can get a class. Otherwise, I plan to see about taking a class when I put K in preschool in the fall of 2010. At that time I'd be willing to take something that might require writing papers, but for now, I just don't see how I could manage that.

I sent away for copies of all my out-of-state transcripts, including my high school transcript. I'll need them to take unopened to the community college to see which classes I might be able to apply my existing credits towards.

I got a little of my garden planted today. I got my zucchinis and summer squash seedlings into the ground, along with some pepper plants and two tomatoes. I need to sprout a lot more tomatoes from seeds, and I'm a bit behind on that.

Busy

My mom just left today. She visited me for a week. I've been too busy spending time with her to have much computer time. I haven't been getting pictures for Project365 every day, either. I've missed about every other day.

We got a lot done this time. My mom replaced my sliding door screen and washed my curtains (the washable ones). She watched the kids (especially Kate) while I finished painting my bathroom (began the project a couple years ago), got a haircut (my last one was May 2008), and took a math placement test at the local community college. We went geocaching on Sunday so she could see what it was like. I think she'd enjoy it. We went to the kids' school's plant fair on Saturday. It was great to see her, but she must be completely worn out.

I did surprisingly well on the math placement test. I haven't taken a math class in over fifteen years. The test was multiple choice, which helped. I could reason out answers from the choices given sometimes, even though I couldn't have arrived at the correct answer sometimes had it not been one of four choices.

My score was far from perfect, I'm sure (and it would have been darned near perfect 21 years ago when I was finishing high school), but I was able to place into college calculus, which is where I placed 21 years ago. Of course, since then, I've completed Calculus 1, 2, and 3, differential equations, partial differential equations, and linear algebra. Those were done over fifteen years ago, and I don't remember much. I guess if I were looking to use math again, I'd take Calc 1, but I'd spend a lot of time reviewing trigonometry I started.

The bright side is that I've placed out of the math for nursing, but I still might take a class in measurements in an effort to boost my grade point average.

I am probably going to take an online computer usage class this summer semester. If I do, I'll need to sign up by Friday. I'm hoping to take one class at a time, whenever I think I can pull it off (such as summer when a friend of mine will probably be home with her kids and not substitute teaching so she'll be available occasionally to watch my kids or I can hire her older kids for that if necessary for little bits of time). I'm hoping to start school full time in the fall of 2011, when K goes to kindergarten.

Real Estate in Michigan

http://greathomesanddestinations.nytimes.com/sales/mi-usa/PRICE-HIGH-sort/2330-p

I saw a link to some Michigan real estate. It started with multi-million dollar homes in the rich Detroit suburbs. I clicked for the last page listed, and I saw a cute house in Detroit for $950.

Things are so bad in the city of Detroit, that they are almost giving away houses. People are leaving Michigan, and there is no one left to fill the less desirable houses (or the houses in the less desirable areas).

I think there are certain upkeep requirements if you buy one of these houses, so I don't know how great a deal they really are, but I've never seen a house for sale for $950.

Geocaching at the Park

These are pictures of a tidal marsh near the Appomattox River. We went geocaching at a park there. We've been there a couple times before and have geocached there once, but didn't have time to go to all the caches. We finished those we are interested in finding today except one we had been unable to locate when we were there last time. We still couldn't find it. On-line it looked like it might be missing.

It was a lovely early spring day. The dogwoods were starting to bloom, and trees there are starting to leaf out.

We came home and had spaghetti and meatballs. It was a lovely Sunday.
