Preparing for Test (and everything else)

I've been studying for my test Monday, taking a quiz in my sociology class, writing an essay for my sociology class, and writing up the material for my clinical. It's taking so long! All I have left is tomorrow, a re-write on some pathophysiology for my clinical, much more studying for the exam. After the exam, I get to come home and re-read the sociology material, proof my essay, edit it, and upload it to the class's website. Also, the kids don't have school on Monday so I'll take the girls to daycare for the time I'm at the exam. I can't even recall what the holiday is.

Just Plodding Along

I have clinical all day tomorrow. It's so hard to get up at 5:15 a.m. I set two alarms in case one fails me. I try to get everything ready the night before so I can rush through my shower, and getting dressed.

Even when I had N and was still working, I had to get up at 5:35 a.m. in order to get ready, get him ready, and leave for work by 7:10. I need to be leaving an hour earlier for the clinical, and I barely have time to eat. I think a semester is only fifteen weeks, so this won't last forever.

Next week Monday we have our first exam in this class. I suspect it's going to be hard. There is an incredible amount of important information in each section, and I have to know it well. Who would want a nurse who didn't? I am looking forward to summer vacation and the term has just begun. Somehow I'll make it. (You see why I didn't post much last semester; not only was time an issue, but mostly I'd just be complaining anyway. No point in much of that.)

I need to go study.

Bad Cold

I think it was Friday I came down with a bad cold. It really slowed me down over the weekend. I had a short paper to write, and it took me days instead of the half-day it should have taken since it was not a research paper. It's finally done and submitted today, the day it was due, but I need to get a lot more reading done today and tomorrow for my nursing class.

My head is stuffed up, my throat hurts, I sneeze a lot, and I have a cough. I decided to skip church yesterday. That was a good call. I needed the sleep, and no one would have wanted me around. I need to get a whole lot better by my clinical on Thursday. I'm assuming that's doable since I've already spent three miserable days. I should start improving soon.

LONG Thursday

Yesterday I had my first clinical of this semester. I had to be at a hospital for over 12 hours. We met at 6:30 a.m., and we didn't leave until about 7:10 p.m. It was dark and cold when I arrived, and the same when I left. It will take some getting used to for me to adjust for days that last so long and start so early. I was dragging a lot by three in the afternoon.

K missed me the most. She wasn't even up when I left and didn't get to say good morning to me. N and J weren't quite so concerned, but N had some homework he had hoped I'd help him with since it was computer related and Mr. K is not a computer person.

Our chickens have spent most of the week locked up. I saw a hawk attacking Psycho in the beginning of the week. We were lucky and she got away with what we think is minimal damage. She is my favorite chicken and one of the two chickens that are favorites of the kids. We are hoping the hawk will move on and look for dinner elsewhere once he gets used to there being no chickens around in the yard for a while. Mr. K let them out for about two hours this evening because he feels so sorry for them, but someone needs to stay out in the yard with them to discourage hawks from thinking we are running a buffet.

Back to normal

School is going again. I have my first clinical of the semester on Thursday. It is supposed to last twelve hours. I'll be dead tired afterwards. At least I don't have any classes (officially) on Fridays (nor on Tuesdays). I do have an online sociology class, and that will eat up a lot of the time I'm not in class.

This week was a light week because I had off Monday for Martin Luther King day. I'm sure he'd have preferred kids go to school, but since he's dead, no one asked him. My kids were off school, too.

I've got a sinus headache today. I think it started last night. Probably my allergies are acting up. The weather is weird here, but it always is. I think we got into the mid 60s today, but tomorrow will be much colder.

The girls have a Girl Scout meeting tonight. I'll bring my laptop along and work on the first part of a written assignment for my sociology class. I'm supposed to write something about ideally how the American justice system works. That's the first paragraph. Then I'm supposed to watch something on the Internet. Then I compare it to my first paragraph. I don't thing there's a free Internet connection at the church where Girl Scouts meets, so I'll just get the first part done. Afterwards, I'll chat with the other moms.

Out of Time

N gets home from school in a couple minutes. It is my last day with no classes while the kids are in school. I made it to the gym this morning, got a haircut, got some shopping done, and made some changes in next week's daycare arrangements because last night I got an e-mail that my Thursday class had been shifted to Tuesday for the week due to some kind of a scheduling conflict.

I got a new Nancy Drew game (Alibi in Ashes I think is the name). With so little time left before classes start, the kids will probably finish the game long before I do.

A moment to spare

I just got the girls on the bus, and I finally found a moment to spare. We've been fighting over the computer all Christmas vacation. The kids went back to school Monday, but I don't go back until next Monday. N and J were home sick this Monday with pinkeye. I've been busy with things like getting a mammogram and seeing the ophthalmologist (my eyes are as good as ever except for age-related loss of up-close acuity).

I need to go to my school today to get a parking sticker for next week, and I hope to be able to pick up a couple textbooks and some kind of kit (IV I think). That, though, requires things be stocked already.

J got a couple goldfish last fall that she keeps in a goldfish bowl in her room. She loves them because they are all hers and no one (wants to) share them. She takes very good care of them.

We got new gravel in our driveway two days before Christmas. It needed to be done very badly. We've been here about thirteen years, and we've never done anything with the driveway. It was getting pretty rutted. The new gravel is what is in the picture.

The weather had been pretty warm up until earlier this week. It got quite cold the last couple nights.

I wish I had more time without the kids home before school starts, but I'll take what I can get. I've become so behind on so many personal things.
